First Week of School!
Kia ora Family, Friends and Whanau of Room 3
I am so very excited to be the teacher of Room 3 this year. It has been lovely getting to know each student in the classroom and seeing the students connect with one another again. We have been working together as a class to build a positive classroom environment in which we feel safe, supported and motivated to learn!
Here are some pieces of work and moments that I have captured so far:
Swimming:
We have the fortunate opportunity to have a qualified and professional swimming instructor this term! Here the kids are learning how to feel comfortable in the water and how to float.
Identity Circles:
Identity is our inquiry focus in Term 1. Here are some 'Identity circles' that reflect the students favourite hobbies, sports, music, movies, beliefs, culture and values.
Korowai Cloak:
Creating a caring and respectful classroom environment is extremely important to me.
I chose to create a Korowai cloak with the class because of its significance within Māori culture and the symbolic relevance a cloak represents in many rituals and cultures around the world.
We first brainstormed a range of qualities we value in a learner (kindness, respect, responsibility, resilience, happiness, positivity, thoughtfulness, good manners etc.) Each student then received a feather to write one quality they hope to demonstrate to their classmates that will help create a happy, respectful and warm classroom environment.
I am very proud of Room 3's Korowai cloak and will continue to remind students to reflect back on the cloak through out the year.
Wonder:
To start the year I have chosen to read the book Wonder by Jack Thorne. It is an incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters school for the first time. The story contains great messages about about kindness, friendship, and acceptance within a school environment.
